Swim, Bike and Run Your B-Day

Imagine celebrating your life, your health, and your fitness on your birthday by swimming, running, and biking your age. That's exactly what athletes all across America are doing. They are among the very first age-group athletes to take up the new B-Fit B-Day Challenge. The athletes take their age and:

1) Swim the number of miles in the first number
2) Run the number of miles in the second number
3) Bike the number of miles in the combined number

So a 45-year-old athlete would:

1) Swim 4 miles
2) Run 5 miles
3) Bike 45 miles

It took exactly one day from when team raceAthlete launched the B-Fit B-Day website (http://www.BFitBDay.com) before Carrie Geddes celebrated her 32nd birthday by completed the first B-Fit B-Day Challenge.

Here's what Geddes said about the B-Fit B-Day Challenge when asked how hard it was:

"Hard? Mostly the scheduling for me because of the kids. The run was a quick 20 degree snow packed run up and down the bike path. I decided to break the swim up: I haven't been in the water since Sept 1 and I couldn't schedule a full 2hrs of pool time around kids and work. Since I don't have a computer on the bike, but I have a good feel for speed/cadence, I decided 2 hours would cover 16mph=32miles. I threw in a little extra for good measure. I believe it was the enormous piece of cake fueling the ride."

She went for the Gold Challenge (completing the swim, bike, run in one day) and set the first Age-Group Record for a 32-year-old women at:

Swim: 2:13:42
Bike: 2:06:08
Run: 16:23
Total 4:35

"I'm so thrilled that athletes are using the challenge as way to celebrate their life, health, and fitness on their birthday," said Roman Mica the creator of the Challenge. "We really hope that this new Challenge will encourage athletes, their friends, and their family to celebrate their birthday in a unique and healthy way."

The B-Fit B-Day challenge is free and open to anybody (no matter what age) who wants to challenge themselves on their birthday, Mica added. "We've got some great sponsor premiums to help motivate folks to go for the Bronze, Silver or Gold," he said. "Our goal in creating the Challenge was to come up with something that has all of the athletic appeal of a triathlon, but with a much more gentle and family friendly atmosphere. In other words, where a race is highly competitive, stressful, punishing and very public. You know...a race. This B-Day B-Fit Challenge is personal, intimate, rewarding, and stress free."

Please note that transition don't count in the challenge so athletes can choose how quickly or slowly to complete the challenge. Its not so much about how far or how fast you go, or how many people you pass, but more of a celebration of your life, health, and fitness on your B-Day.

Team raceAthlete along with the team's sponsors has put out three levels of the B-Fit B-Day Challenge: Gold, Silver and Bronze. To successfully complete the Challenge athletes must:

Bronze: Do all three (swim/bike/run) during the week of their Birthday.
Silver: Do all three (swim/bike/run) in the 72 hours (three days) before, after, or during their Birthday.
Gold: Do all three (swim/bike/run) in 24-hours to celebrate their Birthday!

Important Note: Since "0" Birthdays like 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, and so on are important milestones the "0" represents a 10. This means that on those "0" Birthdays athletes must celebrate this big milestone by running ten miles.

So far over 100 people have already signed up to take the Challenge in 2008. In fact one athlete is planning on going for Gold in Baghdad in September, while another one will be biking all the way around Guam this month to complete her B-Fit B-Day Challenge.
